In many children with Autism, speech may not be the first step. Main focus should be reducing sensory dysfunction through OT and building core skills like vocabulary and instruction following.

If your child has received a diagnosis, it is advised to meet with an experienced therapist and plan an intervention plan. Early and consistent therapy will help manage the gaps.

With proper diagnosis and therapies, the symptoms may be minimized to a level where the child is able to function normally. Mild ASD symptoms are easily manageable. The child can become sub diagnostic that is may not fulfill the criteria of Autism after undertaking therapies and can be included in the society to a large extent - may or may not grow out of it completely, but should be able to manage himself/herself for daily living.

If ADHD is left untreated for a long time, the child will develop persistent disruptive behaviour that will cause more problems later in life as a teen or adult. Children with ADHD may also suffer from anxiety and depression, which in itself is profound. Therefore, one should not delay the ADHD treatment.

It is possible to manage ADHD in children without any medicines. Steps should be taken to reduce stress. Also, consistent therapies, exercises, meditation, a healthy diet and sufficient sleep will help.

ADHD and learning difficulties share some characteristics, though they are two distinct brain disorders. ADHD impairs impulse control and focus, making one hyperactive. Learning difficulties also cause loss of focus, but in learning difficulty, children find it difficult to understand and replicate spoken, written & mathematical language.

No, learning difficulties and autism aren’t related as one is a learning disorder while the other is a developmental disorder. But a child diagnosed with autism may also have a learning difficulty. But the reverse isn’t true.
